1. Flat Tops Scenic Byway

Looking for a breath-taking drive through the heart of Colorado's Forests?

Spanning the White River and Routt National Forests in northwestern Colorado, the 82 mile Flat Tops Trail Scenic and Historic Byway skirts the edge of the Flat Tops Wilderness and connects the communities of Meeker and Yampa.


Approximately half of the Byway is unpaved, but it is accessible to standard passenger vehicles when weather permits; usually from late May through October. The Byway is not plowed in the winter, but it provides wonderful recreation opportunities for snowmobiles, cross country skiing and dog sledding!


Allow 2.5 hours plus time for hikes, picnics and sightseeing, to travel the Byway. There are campgrounds and restroom facilities along the route, but there are no other services. Be sure to fuel up in Meeker or Yampa there is limited cell service, so download this content prior to your trip!
