How do I get to Hanging Lake?

Hanging Lake is located in Glenwood Canyon between the towns of Eagle, Colorado and Glenwood Springs Colorado.

Local's Tip: Hanging Lake is very popular! If possible, avoid the weekends during the peak months (May - October). Try to go early in the morning or toward late afternoon for best chances of snagging a parking space!

Attention! Once the parking lot is full, it's full. You must either wait in line (if there is space) or turn your vehicle around and circle back around at a alter time. Parking is prohibited on the on and off ramp to Interstate 70, it is also prohibited on Interstate 70. Parking illegally at the Hanging Lake parking area is prohibited and could result in a ticket or a tow.

Located in the Glenwood Canyon: Exit 125

  • From Glenwood Springs: Travel 10 miles on I-70 east until exit 125
  • From Eagle: From Eagle, CO travel 22 miles west on I-70 to the Grizzly Creek exit in Glenwood Canyon. After exiting, get back on the highway going eastbound to the Hanging Lake exit. The trail begins 1/4 mile east of the rest area on the left just before the bridge.

Enter parking lot, slowly, please. During the summer months you will be greeted by a Ranger at the welcome station who will help direct your parking .

Feel ambitious?

Rent a bike in Glenwood springs and bike to the trail head on the paved bike path! The bike path runs the length of the canyon and is accessible by a BLM parking lot on the east entrance to the canyon.
